New 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee unveiled with new 4xe hybrid version

The all-new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee unveiled this morning offers several upgrades, an all-new styling, more space and a new plug-in hybrid powertrain in its 4xe version.

Heavily inspired by the Grand Cherokee L presented earlier this year, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a higher level of luxury and refinement that translates into even more interesting handling on the road. That said, it doesn't lose any of its legendary off-road capabilities.

Several versions of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee available

The new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers several trim levels including Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland and the luxurious Summit model. Three engines will be available in the redesigned Grand Cherokee, depending on the version. The base engine will be the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 which develops 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI will also be offered with 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission will be standard and as with the older Grand Cherokee, the new model will be entitled to three different 4x4 gears: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II.

Impressive towing capacity

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will still be able to tow impressive loads with its V8 engine. Its towing capacity is set at 3,273 kilograms, or 7,200 lbs. The V6 can tow 6,200 lbs.

A new plug-in hybrid motor

One of the big news for the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the arrival of the plug-in hybrid engine from the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. The new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe will therefore offer 270 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of a 2.0-liter turbo engine combined with an electric motor for a total power of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque! The 17-kWh battery can travel 40 kilometers in 100% electric mode.

A very luxurious interior

The new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a very luxurious and completely redesigned interior. The 10.1-inch center display features Uconnect 5, Jeep's latest system. There's also a passenger screen and several cutting-edge technologies like Fire TV, a 19-speaker McIntosh sound system, and premium materials throughout.

There are a range of new safety technologies as well including night vision assist and standard driver assistance technologies like adaptive cruise control and blind spot warning. The Trailhawk model gets advanced off-road features like class-exclusive sway-bar disconnect.

Compared to the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, the new Grand Cherokee is about one foot shorter. However, it does gain space compared to the older generation. The new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will arrive by the end of the year while the 4xe version arrives in early 2022.
