2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vs 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee: here are the differences

The Grand Cherokee is one of the undisputed stars of the mid-size SUV segment. Even within the Jeep family, it is one of the shining starts of the brand alongside the Jeep Wrangler.

For 2021, we were treated to a new version of the SUV, that is to say an elongated variant simply called Grand Cherokee L. The latter foreshadowed the renewal of the regular model which has just been presented for 2022. We therefore end up with two Grand Cherokee models on the menu.

What are the main differences between the two? Let’s take a closer look.

Seven seats in the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L

Until now, the Grand Cherokee has only been offered in a five-seat configuration. Now, with the L version, it will be possible to seat seven people on board. The Grand Cherokee L can welcome the extra row thanks to a 12.7-cm longer wheelbase and an overall length that increases by 29 cm.

All of that translates to more space in the second row, too; with an additional 3 cm of legroom. As for the cargo volume, it will be more generous by 391 liters with the L version, for a total of 2,395 liters.

This version will offer an increased level of comfort due to its extended wheelbase. However, it will not be able to offer the same angles of attack when driving off-road, precisely because of its longer configuration.

Trailhawk version

This brings us to an important difference, then, which is the off-the-beaten-path capability. If the L version will of course do well with Jeep's 4x4 systems that are offered standard, it will be necessary to turn to the Trailhawk model, offered only with the regular Grand Cherokee, to find a seasoned adventurer in off-road driving.

Moreover, the new-generation Grand Cherokee now benefits from a front sway bar that can be disconnected. Like in the Wrangler, this gives the Grand Cherokee the ability to go just about anywhere regardless of the obstacles in its path.

4xe Plug-in Hybrid Version

Finally, under the hood, there will be another difference between the two models, at least for now. The regular version will be able to receive the 2-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine. With the contribution of two electric motors (one to assist with starting, the other located between the engine block and the eight-speed automatic transmission), it sees its power reach 375 horsepower while its maximum torque peak is rated at 470 pounds-feet. And in electric mode, it will allow 40 kilometers of range without the use of a drop of oil.

Both the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Jeep Grand Cherokee L offer everything that makes Jeep models special, with impressive luxury to boot. They are slightly different, so it all depends on your needs. Contact us today and let us help you figure it out!
