Standing Out from the Crowd: The 2023 Ram 1500

Pickup trucks.

For decades, they have been the highest-selling vehicles found on Canadian roads; country dwellers and urbanites alike flock to these ultra-practical vehicles like moths to a flame. Further, now that households tend not to have as many cars in their garage, the pickup is having to not just work in the towing and hauling sense it always has, but in the creature comfort and family sense as well.

Still, though; with this many pickups on the road, you want to try and stand out – and that’s where the 2023 Ram 1500 comes in.

Wheels ranging in size up to 22 inches. HID headlights. A swatch of colour options, some bright, some luxuriously toned. Chrome grilles, badges, bumpers and more. Or if you’re more of the tough n’ tumble type, think of the Rebel model, with its plastic fender and body cladding. Then there’s the wild TRX with its optional bed-mounted spare tire, ride height enough to require a “Jump Detection” feature, headache bar and wild body graphics. You want uniqueness? The Ram 1500 has it is spades.

The trend continues inside, where we find top-drawer leather seating on the Limited Longhorn luxury model, while infotainment duties on many trims are handled by a centralized display that measures up to 12”, allowing for smooth operation of all your on-board multimedia needs such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

While the variety when it comes to the exterior and interior styling is undeniable, the engine choices are not to be outdone: there’s a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 with eTorque mild hybrid tech that’s good for 305 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque; a 3.0-litre turbodiesel six with 260 hp and 480 lb-ft, enough to tow over 12,700 pounds; a 5.7-litre HEMI V8 also with eTorque that makes 395 hp and 410 lb.-ft.; and finally, the grand power poobah of them all, the 6.2-litre supercharged V8 good for a scalding 702 that’s-not-a-typo hp and 650 lb-ft. That last engine is limited to just the TRX model, but the other three can be had across an array of models.

If variety is the spice of life, then a Ram 1500 is the truck for life!
